After a two week hiatus due to bye weeks and international rugby matches, the Renegades finally stepped back onto the pitch in Danbury, CT. The women had a couple weeks of rest and some time to  resharpen skills for Saturday’s glorious rugby weather.

Monmouth started strong with the first try coming from Taryn “Baby Rhino” Sievers after just 3 minutes of game play. After a bit of frantic and rushed rugby, the Renegades refocused and began to come together and clean up their decision making. From that point on Monmouth continued to dominate while in Danbury’s half leading to plenty of scoring opportunities. One of those being a textbook maul off a lineout giving Alex Rumsey a chance to touch it down for Monmouth’s fourth unanswered try of the game.

Danbury’s number 8 was a force that our ladies had a bit of trouble shutting down, dropping girls like they were hit with a taser. She scored their only two tries of the game, putting Danbury on the board with her aggressive runs.

The Monmouth backline got a bit of fluid motion going, moving the ball quickly to the outside every chance they got. Winger Kathleen Kerwin got the ball so much that she was able to try out her new chip kick fetish several times. More often than not, they were quite successful and were covered by a quick support player. Monmouth finished the game with confidence, earning themselves another win.

This Saturday is the Renegades last game of the season, kicking off against division rivals the Village Lions. Come out and support the women in their run to remain undefeated for the fall! Also stay for a Monmouth first for the women – a full b-side game against Rowan University. First KO is at noon at Thompson Park, B side game and social at the Rover to follow.

Final Score: Monmouth 62 – Danbury 12
Tries: Taryn (3), Nicole (3), Alex, Diana, BM, Kate / Dwyer (6 conversions)
