This past Saturday, the Monmouth women took the field at CBA against Brooklyn in their fourth league match of the season. The Renegades took a while to get themselves going after the first whistle, but started to find their chemistry well into the first half. The game opened up after Kat Hussey scored the opening try off a pick and go.
Kelsey Howarth scored her second try of the day off a tight pass from Miranda off the base of a ruck after a restart. She managed to outrun the entire Brooklyn defense from the 50, making her try look like something out of a movie.
During a consistent 10 minutes of brilliant play, the Renegades held up Brooklyn’s scrum long enough for Kat to execute a textbook 8-man pick off the back of the scrum to touch it down for her second try. The women came out victorious with a 29-17 victory. (Tries: Kat-2, Kelsey-2, Nicole-1 / Conversions: Dwyer-2)
The women then fielded a B side team to play against Rutgers Women’s B-side. This is the first fall season in a very long time that the Renegades are able to field a second side for multiple games. There were many new girls that got plenty of minutes, and the match included rookie KARL scoring her first try ever!
This coming Saturday the women return to Thompson Park to continue their fantasy season of being undefeated. Kickoff is at 11am against Morris, so come out and support!
