The Renegades kicked off their season last weekend against Brooklyn on an unusually hot day at Randall’s Island. The game got off to a sloppy start with multiple knock ons from both sides putting the forwards through some tough work. However the women managed to keep the ball in Brooklyn’s half of the field by consistently winning most offensive and defensive scums.
Becca Moose scored early on and the Renegades maintained a tight lead throughout the first half. The second half still proved to be a battle, but the Renegades held on and started to put some plays together including a ‘textbook’ try starting in the forwards and moving through the hands of the back line to give Zimmi a chance on the outside. As the game went on, the heat took a toll on both sides and the Renegades had to call upon their rookies to help the women secure their first win. The Renegades were happy to walk away with their 34-24 but have plenty to work on and are excited to take the field again this weekend away at Morristown.
