This past Saturday, the Renegades faced off against the Phoenixville Whitehorses in their first conference EPRU game of the season. While the Renegades lost 45-12, their grit and strength throughout the entire 80 minutes made leadership, including Vice Captain Nikki Bisoglio, “super f——- excited for the rest of the season.”
First off, the Renegade scrums took the Whitehorses completely by surprise. The ball was almost stolen back by the Renegades a few times and the pushes throughout were strong and consistent. Prop Beth Kaltenbach was in every single scrum in addition to crashing through the defense with such gusto that it took multiple defenders to take her down.
Her runs, in addition to other tight 5 players such as Chloe Giannone and Allie Zoda, put the Whitehorses on their back feet and allowed for multiple try scoring opportunities. A ball down the back line after one such crash resulted in a try from Gabriela Kelly, getting some points on the scoreboard for the Renegades.
The biggest issue the Renegades were having, like the previous week, was with defense. Whitehorse was able to get into the try zone on the far edges after the Renegades didn’t shift quickly enough, and a few kickoffs quickly resulted in more points after the Whitehorse Fullback was able to find space down the center of the field.
The Renegades face off against Harrisburg this Saturday, Sept 21st, at 11am at Thompson Park! Be there or be square.
