Monmouth 7s: Showdown at the Shore VI

Recap and Results

On Saturday, July 7th, 49 playing sides from throughout the northeast competed in the 6th edition of the Showdown at the Shore 7s Tournament, hosted by Monmouth Rugby Club and presented by Richie and Page Distributors.  This year’s event was held at Capelli Sport Complex and features over 500 athletes from High School through Senior level.  On the Men’s side, Old Blue came away with top honors in the 3rd leg of the Northeast Rugby 7s Qualifier Series, defeating a strong NYAC side after both teams finished atop their pools.  Mystic River came away with the Plate, Long Island the Bowl, and White Plains captured the Shield.

For the women, New York Rugby Club dominated the field, outscoring opponents 202-10 while going 4-0 in the round robin format to capture the Cup.  Boston Women had a strong showing as well, finishing 3-1 for a 2nd place finish Plate honors.  They were followed by Beantown, Empire, and Albany to round out the competitive 5 team field.

Over in the Open and Social brackets Monmouth took home the Cup in their home tournament in the Men’s Open with a convincing 24-5 victory over Lansdowne to avenge an earlier stumble against them in pool play.  Fairfield came away with the Plate in the runner-up match over PAC.  Brooklyn Women captured the Cup with a narrow victory over South Jersey in the Women’s Open with NYRC taking the Plate and Monmouth Renegades adding to the haul with the Bowl.  In Men’s Social, Monmouth’s 2nd side fought to the Cup final, but could not match NYAC 2 as they ran away with the Cup.

Finally in High School action, Play Rugby fought their way through a crowded field to take the Cup, with their 2nd side taking the Plate and Fairfield capturing the Bowl.  For the High School Girls, Morris took the Cup and Central Jersey picked up the Plate.

Thank you to all of our competitors, sponsors and supporters and we’ll see you next year!
