After a bye week and and a forfeit, the Renegades were more than ready to be back on the pitch for conference play against the Village Lions this past Saturday. Luckily the Renegades filled their schedule with two friendly matches the weekend prior since Saturday turned out to be quite the opposite of friendly! Right from the kickoff it was apparent that the Village Lions were going to play a very physical game.
The Monmouth Women fought hard and seemed to be playing defense for a majority of the match. They held strong and the Village Lions couldn’t break through or find any gaps. Finally the women capitalized and Nicole Carroll scored the first try of the game. With many penalties against them the Renegades pulled together and kept their heads up; scrumhalf Miranda Previte took advantage of a rare penalty by the Lions and went for a run off a quick tap. She put in a textbook pop kick, got the ball and passed it off to her support for the second try. The first half ended 14-5.
The Renegades hung in there through the second half but the Lions did manage to score after a long fight inside of Monmouth 22. However the Renegades answered back when breakout back of the game Kathleen Kerwin scored her second try. She  must have eaten her oatmeal and bananas that day! So the Renegades held off the only other undefeated team in the league with a 19-12 victory! The women are excited to continue their season with a home game this Saturday at CBA!
