Saturday’s heat, although an obstacle, would not get in the way of this Monmouth squad’s opening day victory as the men cruised to a 39-14 win over Montclair. Great defensive pressure and quick pace saw Monmouth scoring early and often with tries scored by forwards Chris Sullivan and Chris Szablowski.  The scoring continued late in the first with a very well executed set piece put away by Matt Crumedy.

Smartly placed kicks and great support led to a Nick Lynch try 3 minutes into the second.  Monmouth continued to pour on the pressure without hesitation. Immediately following the kickoff Nick Lynch found himself in the try zone after some fancy footwork and a burst speed as Nick Sullivan opened the field of play. Montclair clawed one back after several hard fought phases to land on the scoring sheet. Szablowski punched through in quick fashion for his second shortly followed by Nick Sullivan’s first try for the season. Montclair took one back with 3 minutes left of an already decided game. The men travel north next to face opponent Morris.
