Monmouth Renegades Add to Their Winning Record
The Monmouth Women traveled up to Denville to face Morris last weekend. Right from kick off the Renegades dominated play keeping possession of the ball and capitalizing on errors made by the Morris women. 11 minutes into the first half Kate Kelly ran one in for the first try of the match. The women were looking for a big improvement from their opening week and that’s what they got. All the players were skillfully catching, passing and rucking – and this led to the women simply outplaying their opponents. Going into the second half the score stood at 29-6 Monmouth.
The play of the game however, goes to the forward pack for a textbook maul off an offensive lineout. The Monmouth women threw the ball in about 15 meters out of the try zone and the forwards easily pushed the Morris forwards 15 meters backwards into the try zone to touch the ball down. Even Lil the ref commented on how the Monmouth women are ‘bringing back the maul.’
The final score of the game was 63-12 Monmouth. This Saturday the Renegades have a bye; they will take the field again October 1st, home vs. Danbury.
