On Saturday, June 18th 2016, the Monmouth Rugby Football Club will host the 2016 Monmouth 7s: Showdown at the Shore Tournament at Thompson Park in Lincroft, New Jersey. Now in it’s forth year, Monmouth 7s is one of the biggest showcases for rugby in New Jersey, drawing participation from throughout the Northeast. This 2016 edition has the added excitement this year of the return of Rugby to the 2016 Summer Games in Rio. Tournament proceeds support the Monmouth Rugby Football club which include practice and playing fields, equipment, and travel for our Men, Women, and Youth programs. Additionally, the 2016 Monmouth 7s Tournament will host local Olympic Day festivities which promote Team USA ahead of the 2016 Rio Summer Games and celebrated Rugby 7’s Debut in the Olympics. The event includes Olympic themed activities, fun for kids, an opportunity to meet former Olympians and more! Monmouth Rugby’s Olympic Day is part of 1,816 events to be hosted in 1,297 communities representing every state. Olympic Day, officially celebrated June 23, has been recognized each year since 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on June 23, 1894.
