Carl Hamm

Carl Hamm’s rugby career as both a player and a coach can both be told as the story of the Monmouth rugby Clubs emergence and stance as one of the premier rugby clubs in the Northeast. Carl joined the Monmouth rugby Club in 1975 as a player for close to twenty years, and then spent a number of years as a coach as the century began to turn. Carl was a key component in the clubs emergence as a contender, and, it should be noted that during the 80’s, when there were far fewer teams; Monmouth would need to play the likes of Old Blue, NYAC, Blackthorn and other Division 1 stalwarts.
It was during these match ups that Carl most fondly recalls being a member of the Monmouth Rugby Club. Carl’s most memorable Monmouth Rugby moment was one particular match, when Captain Kevin Boman couldn’t play against Old Blue, and asked that Carl take over. Carl did, and for the day, led Monmouth to a victory over Old Blue.
Carl took over as coach in the late nineties, ushering in the new breed of Monmouth players who would lead the turn at the start of the twenty first century – coaching along the way, players Chris Kaldrovics, Kevin Boman and Kevin Walsh.
Brian Harris joined Brookdale (now Monmouth) Rugby Football Club in 1973. He served as Match Secretary from 1974 through 1983. He also served as Treasurer from 1976-1995, when he retired and moved to Virginia.
Brian served as a Selector, equipment manager, liaison to the Met Union, referee, and as our “C” team captain. When he retired and moved we realized that we needed four people to fill his shoes and take on his responsibilities. In addition to all of those other duties he took, at each game, meticulous match notes that provide a rich history of our earlier days of playing. These notes will soon be scanned and posted on our web site for all to see and remember.
