Congratulations to local CBA Rugby as they won the Varsity Rugby New Jersey State Championships by one point over St Augustine. Play Rugby Academy won the Challenge Cup. CBA also won the U16 State Championship. The girls division was won by Morris. The Championship was played over 5 tournaments with points awarded for each tournament.

CBA beat St Augustine to the U19 Championship by 1 point in the final standings. The last tournament yesterday was in Denville, NJ hosted by Morris. The CBA athletes played amazing over the weekend with Dan Goetz, Nick Zanghi, Alex Halpin, Cam DiGiorgio, Dom Gangemi, Sam Houston, Michael Lemoine, Jack Stryker, Aris Magoulas, Ryan Tumulty and Nick Drosos all scoring tries across the four games. In Sunday’s tournament the team defense was outstanding and very physical our offense was lethal with Captain’s Goetz, Halpin and DiGorgio all scoring through the middle and our burners Zanghi and Magoulas out wide. Dom Gangemi was very physical in offense and defense while every team tested Ryan Tumulty’s 1 v 1 tackling none got by him. Jack Stryker had a 80 meter try off a scrum which has become his signature move all season while Ryan Paris has excelled at whatever role is required with the composure of a veteran even though it is his first season playing. The squad has worked very hard since July to recruit, train and develop the new players from including CBA Rugby’s biggest ever freshman class. We train as one squad and on the final day the squad turned into a very special crowd of Colt Crazies chanting and singing when the Colt’s Go Marching In.  Coach Pat Moroney sums it up best “The improvement in our athletes this year has been remarkable. The lads work hard all season improving their core skill set and team continuity. The program continues to go from strength to strength with the support of Coach Chiaravalloti, Mr Fales, Brother Frank and the administration. Our coaches worked hard to improve the athletes both inside and outside the white lines and I would like to thank Coaches Lenihan, Terilli and Sullivan of their tireless work with both the Varsity and U16 squads. CBA Rugby Parents are our biggest fans make the program possible – this season the parents ensured that the lads nutrition was looked after at all the tournaments, raised funds for our team and cheered relentlessly from the sidelines.”
