While most people were huddled in the warmth during last Saturday’s horrible weather, the Renegades took the pitch against the Morris Women’s Rugby team. The Morris women showed up in their pink flamingo socks in strong support of breast cancer awareness month and were ready to give the Monmouth Women a tough fight.  Right from kickoff, the weather had a strong effect on the game. The wind was blowing strong, making kicks to relieve pressure inside the 22 and kicks for touch extremely hard to execut, and knock ons were haunting both sides.  After about 20 minutes of back and forth play the Monmouth women were able to swing it wide to the backs who sent it all the way down the line allowing winger Zimmi to go for a little run.  Stitch was there for support when she came down inside the 5 and scored on the outside for the first try of the game.
The forwards continued to keep up the pressure on rucks and scrums and the Monmouth defense stayed strong throughout the first half. Nicole Carroll managed to sneak in a try between the posts with a few minutes left in the half making the halftime score 12-0 Monmouth. The game went on in a similar seemingly slow manner with many penalties on both sides during the second half. However, Kathryn Hussey did manage to have the most ‘textbook’ tackle of the second half when she laid out a member of the Morris women’s back line; the crowd on the sideline let out a “Ooooooh!!.” The Renegades put two more tries over the line – both scored by Taryn Sievers and called it a day. Everyone who played and spectated Saturday deserved a cold beer for coming out to weather the storm but in reality probably just wanted a steaming cup of hot chocolate.
The Renegades have the next two weekends off and will then travel out to Danbury, Connecticut on November 12th.
