The Renegades took to Thompson Park on Saturday for the first time this season to play the Northeast Philadelphia Irish Ladies. After a fall season of low numbers and injuries, the women are using the spring to rebuild and explore the most successful combinations for our upcoming competitive season.
For our first hit out, we can all be happy with our level of play. 52-0 seems like a big score, however it did not reflect how NE Philly hung in for long periods of time and were able to disrupt our pattern. Besides the big win, many positives came out of the day. Our two new rookie locks Meagan and Chelsea took the rugby field for the first time ever, exceeding expectations in the scrums and line outs after spending very little time on set pieces. In the hooker position, Alex and Chunks were on point with throw ins. We are beginning to build some real depth in this key position. Our loose forwards had real impact with some telling breaks stretching the Philly defense with regular consistency. The back line got off to a shakey start but rebounded with consistent handling and unselfish play culminating in some fine tries given the windy conditions.
